The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve in the Komatsu PC400-8 operates by reintroducing a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine's combustion cycle. This process helps to reduce harmful emissions and increase fuel efficiency.

As the engine runs, a certain amount of exhaust gases are diverted from the exhaust system and redirected back into the engine inlet through the EGR valve. The valve opens and closes according to signals sent from the engine control unit, regulating the amount of exhaust gas that's allowed to flow back into the engine and maintaining optimal performance.

The EGR valve plays an essential role in reducing the amount of nitrogen oxide emissions produced by the engine. When the valve opens, nitrogen dioxide from the exhaust gas reacts with other substances in the engine to produce less harmful gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor.
